Bone Graft Funnel Plunger

Model Number: AEB03-I

Compatible Implants: Lumbar interbody fusion devices (LF-III).

Product Introduction

This comprehensive 37-piece instrument kit is designed for Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) procedures.

It supports the critical stages of TLIF—disc space exposure, nerve protection, endplate preparation, and interbody cage insertion—ensuring a seamless surgical workflow.

Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel with surface-enhanced working edges, the kit includes neuro retractors, graded rasps, curettes, bone preparation tools, modular graft delivery components, and precise cage inserters.

It is ideal for degenerative lumbar disease (L2–S1), grade I–II spondylolisthesis, discogenic back pain, and revision fusion procedures, meeting the needs of both open and minimally invasive approaches.

The Bone Graft Funnel Plunger is a reusable spinal surgical instrument designed to work with a compatible bone graft funnel or graft delivery tube for transferring prepared bone graft material into the target surgical area.

During lumbar interbody fusion procedures, the plunger is inserted through the graft funnel to progressively advance graft material toward the prepared disc space or compatible interbody fusion device.

Its straightforward mechanical design provides surgeons with a dedicated method for loading, advancing and packing bone graft material through a controlled delivery pathway.

The instrument can be incorporated into TLIF, PLIF and other compatible lumbar interbody fusion instrument systems, depending on the implant system and surgical technique.

What Is a Bone Graft Funnel Plunger Used For?

A bone graft funnel plunger is the pushing component of a bone graft delivery instrument system.

The typical system consists of:

Bone graft funnel

Delivery tube or cannula

Bone graft plunger

Optional funnel stand or loading accessory

Prepared graft material is first loaded into the funnel or delivery channel. The plunger is then advanced through the channel to move the graft toward the distal end of the delivery instrument.

This approach provides a dedicated pathway for transferring graft material into the prepared surgical site instead of relying only on forceps or other general-purpose instruments.

Features

Durable, High-Precision Materials

Constructed from hardened stainless steel alloys (e.g., 316L, 420B), with electropolished edges to reduce soft tissue damage and enhance fatigue resistance.

Neural Protection & Safe Exposure

Graded nerve root retractors (6 / 8 / 10 mm) allow progressive retraction. A vertebral spacer supports controlled disc height restoration. Bone nibblers and chisels assist in safe osteophyte removal without compromising neuromuscular structures.

Efficient Disc Space Preparation

Straight and curved nucleotomes clear disc remnants. Graded chisels and anatomically curved curettes remove cartilaginous endplate with precision, preserving the underlying bone. Bone rasps (straight/curved) fine-tune the fusion surface.

Modular Graft Delivery & Fusion Workflow

Deploy with integrated tools: a graft funnel, bone pusher, and slot-delivery devices guide the graft precisely. Interbody graft holders consolidate packing and delivery—increasing efficiency by approximately 50%.

Cage Insertion Control

S/L series trial spacers (7–13 mm) verify fit. Insert using a holder with controlled impaction. A mallet-style inserter and retrieval tool support safe placement or removal of the cage if needed.

Advantages

Better Neural Safety & Exposure
Progressive nerve root retraction (6–10 mm) and controlled vertebral distraction reduce neural tension by ~30%, enhancing operative safety.

Optimized Endplate Quality for Fusion
Graded chisels and anatomically curved curettes remove cartilage effectively while preserving bone. Rasping refines the interface, improving biological fusion potential by ~40%.

Efficient and Clean Graft Packing
The integrated graft system ensures precise placement with zero graft loss, enhancing packing efficiency by ~50%.

Precise & Safe Cage Placement
Adjustable impaction with a balanced mallet design ensures controlled insertion—even into osteoporotic bone. Low-profile tapered tip and graft support eliminate misalignment risks during placement.
